Tooth whitening
cost of whitening:
If Completed by The Dentist |
If Completed by The Hygienist |
£420.00 |
£275.00 (CURRENT OFFER!) |
The reason the cost is higher for the dentist to complete this whitening procedure is because the dentists time per hour is higher in cost to the hourly rate of the hygienist. This however does not effect your overall results. It is who you feel comfortable seeing for this procedure. At the current time we have an offer running to see our Hygienist for this procedure.
What is covered in the cost of your tooth whitening procedure?
- Includes pre & post operative clinical photographs so we can present you with before and after treatment photos.
- Photo to record colour match reference with our shade guide.
- Comprehensive written information for you to take away.
- Regular monitoring throughout treatment.
- Advice on after care and maintenance.
- This intervention is covered by our professional indemnity.
What to expect at your tooth whitening appointments?
What to expect at your tooth whitening appointments?
- Appointment 1: At your first appointment the dentist will discuss the process of tooth whitening and what it entails. They will talk you through your expectations and do a shade match for your currently un-whitened teeth. We will record photos so we can make a comparison when you begin your whitening. If you are happy to go ahead after hearing all the information, the dentist will then take impressions of your teeth. This impression of your teeth is then sent to the laboratory where it will be made into a perfectly fitted whitening tray to your mouth and teeth shape unlike ill fitting "at home whitening kits" you can find online. This usually takes around two weeks to arrive back to the practice. When it arrives back you will require a fit appointment.
- Appointment 2: At the second appointment the dentist will ensure that the trays that have arrived back from the laboratory fit perfect and feel comfortable in your mouth. The dentist will then do a demonstration for you, how much of the whitening gel to apply to the tray and how to care for both your whitening trays and whitening gel. We will always send you away with written instructions so you wont forget any information from the appointment. We are only a phone call away if you need any advice or help. If all is well, the trays fit and your happy with the information we have provided you with, you can now start your tooth whitening at home!
- Appointment 3: At the third appointment we will be reviewing your whitening progress. We may compare the photos recorded from appointment one to your current progress. We may do a second shade match to compare your starting shade to your shade at today's appointment. We will also ensure your using the product correctly, ask you how your using it and if you've experienced any side effects such as sensitivity (a common side effect reported by whitening gel users).
- Appointment 4: Similar to appointment three, and if necessary, we will be reviewing your progress once again.

things to take into consideration
- Cosmetic work such as tooth whitening is not covered by your Denplan, so if you are a Denplan patient with us you will need to pay our private fees for this service.
- Your teeth will only whiten to a certain shade then stop.
- Foods and drinks such as red wine or black coffee or spicy curries will increase the staining process if consumed daily, therefore you will need to keep on top of your whitening to maintain the shade you lightened them to.
- Fillings, crowns, bridges and any other restorations present will not be whitened by the gel, the gel will only whiten natural tooth, therefore these will need to be replaced with the correct shade once you have got to your desired shade. This usually is not an issue, and doesnt need to be replaced unless it is visible when you smile.
Cost of whitening gel
£19.00 - per tube.
Our whitening gel is sold in syringe tubes for easy application into your whitening trays. The syringe contains 3ML of tooth whitening gel per syringe. The dentist will talk you through how to properly store your whitening gel tubes at home. They will send you away with written information. They will also perform a demonstration with examples we have to show how much gel is needed to be used.
Whitening gel Information
The whitening gel we use is 10% carbamide peroxide which is equivalent to 6% hydrogen peroxide. It is specifically formulated for the purpose of teeth whitening and is manufactured to a pharmaceutical standard. We source our whitening gel from a highly reputable UK based dental supply company.
Tooth whitening is illegal if performed without a dentist supervision. (see General Dental Council advice leaflet here). Treatments and procedures offered by non-dental professionals (such as in beauty salons) could potentially cause damage to your teeth and soft tissues (gums).
Tooth whitening "at home" kits are widely available to purchase both online and in drug stores, with social media, celebrities and influencers promoting these brands to many of their following with bright attractive packaging, showing shocking yet ironically unbelievable before and after pictures. Because of this we have experienced an increase in teenagers and young adults using these products at home. However it is illegal for these companies to sell you the same strength of peroxide dental professionals can and they usually don't contain enough to change the overall appearance of your smile, rather just dehydrating your teeth to make them appear whiter temporarily in most cases, with effects usually wearing off when the teeth re-hydrate. With these kits you usually receive an ill fitting whitening tray that is not specific to your mouth shape which can cause the product to leak out of the tray and onto soft tissues (gums).
We never recommend you to complete your teeth whitening at home with a kit bought off the internet, but if you choose to do so, ensure you are reading all the ingredients labelled and researching prior to using it. If you experience any problems or issues while using a whitening product you have purchased offline you will not be covered for any correction treatment that may be needed as usually these online brands are not covered with insurance. If you need any help or advise, please don't hesitate to ask a member of our team.

Composite Bonding
A less expensive, and far less intrusive treatment to lab made veneers. This treatment involves adding composite filling material to the tooth to improve appearance.
We use air abrasion technology to roughen the surface and avoid removing any tooth. Although these restorations will need maintenance in the form of periodic re- polishing, and surface replacement, this is relatively easy to do and the underlying natural teeth are kept intact.
Composite Bonding Example 1:
This patient was unhappy with the appearance of her lateral incisors (second tooth along). They felt that the tooth was too short in comparison to the adjacent teeth making it feel as though the front teeth appeared much larger. We planned and discussed concerns and decided on composite to make the tooth appear longer and bulkier in appearance. Although the overall appearance is subtle the patient is much happier with their smile and feels much more confident.

This patient was unhappy with the appearance of their teeth. They had tooth surface loss and wear present. Unlike if this patient opted for lab made veneers, we did not remove any more tooth to prepare them. We used air abrasion technology to roughen the surface to make the composite material bond.

Whitening & Bonding
We've discussed both whitening and composite bonding above but in some cases we complete both these treatments. Whitening and bonding is where the teeth are whitened to the desired shade. Once the teeth have reached the desired shade of the patient, we will then replace any old fillings or make any aesthetic changes using composite filling material.
The cost of this type of care is case specific and depends upon many different factors. We normally like to create a set of diagnostic models which is a direct model of your teeth, make any proposed changes to these first, then 'try in' the result in the patient's mouth as a test. Once both the dentist and patient are happy with the planned result, we will then provide an itemised treatment plan including the full cost.
Bonding to teeth like this generally takes between around 60 minutes per tooth (depending upon complexity), and cost from £210, less than half the cost of our lab fabricated porcelain veneers.
