Oral health educator appointments & information:

You may have been referred to one of our oral health educators by a dentist who feels this will help improve your general oral hygiene. The oral health educators primary focus is on prevention and how you can take control of the health of your mouth at home.

The oral health educators will be informed by the dentist on what may need improving and discussing during the appointment, so each appointment is tailored to your needs. This could be discussing cavity prevention, periodontal disease or erosion, If you have fixed/removable appliances (braces or retainers), plaque control, brushing/flossing and interdental care or diet advice (discussing diet/completing a diet diary).

You may only need one oral health educator appointment and then the dentist will review your progress and re-refer if necessary.

oral health educators accomplishments:

Not only do our oral health educators provide advice in practice, but we also take part in many campaigns and programmes to promote good oral hygiene such as the "Smile 4 Life" and "National Smile Month". Our oral health educators also visit schools and educate children of all ages using visual aids so they keep engaged during the talks.

If you feel your pupils would benefit from a group talk in your school with our oral health educators then don't hesitate to contact us to organise a session.

See below some of the activities we've carried out in the past to promote good oral hygiene in both adults and children:
Picture
Mrs Beverley Robinson (Oral Health Educator) displaying an information board to educate children at a local school about hidden sugars in some of their favourite food, the risk of tooth decay and tooth-brushing instructions/demonstration. We promote the "Smile 4 Life" programme which aims to reduce tooth decay in children, while laying a solid foundation for good oral hygiene throughout their lives.

For "National Smile Month" we decided to decorated our reception area like a sweet shop. We filled the cabinets with sweet jars displaying how much sugar the sweets contained.
Picture
For "National Smile Month" we also provided a "pick n mix" corner, where children could place toothpaste samples and information leaflets inside a paper bag to take home.
Picture
During "National Smile Month" we provided "goody bags" for children to take away for free. These contained a toothbrush, a toothpaste sample, some information leaflets and a toothbrushing chart.

Sticking with the sweet shop theme during "National Smile Month" we displayed our special offers in glass jars with colourful tissue paper. We had lots of special offers throughout the month, mainly aimed towards children.

Smoking Cessation

Smoking Cessation:

If you are thinking of giving up smoking or wish somebody close to you who smoked, would give up - then dont hesitate to come to us for advice on this. Most are aware of the harmful effects smoking can have on the body... but, what about passive smoking?

Passive smoking, also known as involuntary smoke or second hand smoking is when you expose those around you. Tobacco smoke lets off different chemicals and gasses, which are harmful to not only your health, but people around you will also be exposed to these chemicals which can in-turn cause them to have health issues such as a sore throat, cough, dizziness, or more serious diseases such as heart disease or lung cancer.

There is further information on smoking cessation at the bottom of this page.

If you want to talk to somebody about giving up smoking then dont hesistate to get in touch.
