restorations options, info & costs

Amalgam fillings:

from £72 - £220.

Amalgam or more commonly known as a "silver filling" is a mixture of silver, tin and mercury combined. When these components are mixed it turns into a softened material. This softened amalgam material is placed and shaped in the prepared cavity, where it rapidly hardens into a solid filling.

Amalgam is strong and long lasting although there is no doubt that amalgam does not look like natural enamel - if this bothers you and you want to opt for a more natural appearance, perhaps consult with your dentist for different treatment options IE a composite filling.

White Composite fillings:

from  £95- £285.

Composite filling or more commonly known as a "white" or "tooth coloured" filling is made of plastic resin. It can be used for restorative and cosmetic work. Composite filling material is a "putty" like consistency to start with. Once the dentist has the desired shape for the filling it is then set with a blue light which sets the material hard.

Composite looks a lot like natural enamel therefor people who wish for a more natural appearance may opt for this. Composite filling material is also widely used in cosmetic work and for building up the incisor teeth (the teeth you see when you smile).

Crowns:

from  £450 - £550.

A crown can give a broken down tooth a new lease of life. A crown is usually suggested when a heavily filled tooth breaks down and there is no longer enough surface to build It back up with filling material. The crown is made in a lab but all the preparation and fitting of the crown is completed by your dentist.

Your first appointment for your crown will consist of a preparation appointment where we prepare the tooth for the crown, we then take multiple impressions of the tooth we are crowning. All these impressions will be disinfected and sent to the lab where the crown is made. Before you leave your preparation appointment we will fit a temporary measure in place. You will then attend a further appointment with us so that the crown can be fitted. The turn around period for the crown to be back in the practice is usually 2 weeks.

Please note that the type of material used to make the crown will reflect the costs.

Resin retained bridge:

From  £475.

When a tooth is missing or extracted and you would like to fill the space it has left without opting for a partial denture - then a bridge is a good option to disguise this. Similar to the process of making a crown, a bridge preparation will be required. The adjacent teeth will be prepared to support this bridge at the preparation appointment. We will then take impressions of the area before these are disinfected and sent to the lab. You will then attend a further appointment with us so that the bridge can be fitted. The turn around period for the bridge to be back in the practice is usually 2 weeks.

Please note that the type of material used to make the crown will reflect the costs.

  •  Clinical Photography - This helps the dentist in the shade matching process (ensuring that the restoration shade matches your natural tooth colour). It also provides the patient with a clear before and after picture of the process.
